What kind of LED lighting is the best for an office?

Over the past years, traditional bulbs have been replaced by LED lights, as such bulbs are way more efficient, but also better for the environment, meaning that they’re an attractive option for larger spaces, like office buildings.

If you’re looking to redecorate your office or just make the entire space consume less energy – starting with the lighting – there are a few things you need to know about LED lights. Yes, we’re talking about their pros and cons!

Pros of using LEDs in your office

First of all, they last up to 20 times longer than a traditional halogen or incandescent bulb, meaning that you will replace them less often. Besides, they use less electricity, which automatically translates to some serious economy.

Temperature is also very important, as LED lights have a lower heat output than traditional bulbs, allowing you to keep your office cooler and, of course, lowering the risk of fire.

Using LED tubes or bulbs in an office leads to lower CO2 emissions and less risk of containing toxic materials – mercury, to be more specific. If you care about the environment, there’s no doubt that they are a great choice for you.

Finally, let’s not forget that you also have the option of choosing various colors and styles, fitting even the craziest fixtures and preferences.

Cons of using LEDs in your office

Despite having all of those benefits, LED lights are far from being perfect, as they also come with a few cons.

Sure, they can help you save some money over time, but they are actually more expensive up front, costing even double than regular bulbs. If you’re on a budget when it comes to redecorating or simply changing the lights, LED tubes or bulbs can be a bit expensive.

Speaking about redecorating, if your old office has older light fixtures, you might as well encounter a compatibility problem, so you’ll have to change the entire fixture in order to be able to enjoy LED lighting.

Last but not least, let’s not forget that LEDs can sometimes work improperly, in extreme temperatures. If it tends to get way too hot or cold in your office, you might as well reconsider your options.

Ok, so we’re done with the pros and cons, but there are a few more things you should know about LED lighting, presuming that you’ve decided to get them for your office.

Types of LED lights

Besides the classic formats, LED tubes and bulbs, there are a few more, which started gaining a lot of popularity lately.

Specifically, we’re talking about panel lights, very common in many office settings, globe bulbs, candle bulbs, colored LED bulbs, dimmable LED bulbs, and, probably our favorites, smart LED bulbs. The latter is definitely the most interesting type, as they are connected to smartphones or smart home network, allowing you to control them remotely. Basically, you can turn on the lights using your phone or directly by voice, if you have an assistant, like Amazon Alexa, for example.

As you can see, there are a lot of options to choose from when it comes to adding LED lights to an office space. It can be a bit complicated to decide at first, but once you understand a few basic notions, it will get way easier. Or you can use professional help.
