Get ranking advice from the man who wrote the search engine Bible

Stephan Spencer is one of the most adept teachers of SEO in
the world. He is internationally respected as one of the most in-the-know
marketers in the world.

He has written and co-written multiple books, including Google Power Search, Social eCommerce, and
what’s been called the SEO Bible, The Art of SEO.

Stephan is so well-respected that The Art of SEO is actually used
as a textbook in some universities.

You can imagine, then, just how excited I was to talk with him
about some of his tips for improving search engine rankings.

Start by Focusing on Low-Hanging Fruit

When Stephan talks about low-hanging fruit, he’s referring
to simple SEO fixes that don’t take very much time at all. And the great thing
about them is that they can start to move the needle of your search engine
ranking in the right direction.

Some of these include checking the speed of your website and
writing content that is made for humans to read.

So many people focus on keyword stuffing to improve their
rankings that they end up writing content that is boring or unreadable to
humans. And these days, search engine algorithms are catching on. This type of
content is typically penalized.

Another low-hanging fruit is linking to your other web pages
on your Home page. This leads visitors to exactly where they need to be to find
out about your products and services.

Move On to Practices That Will Garner Major Rankings Improvements

Once you’ve taken care of the low-hanging fruit, the next
thing you’ll want to do is practice the Pareto Principle, or the 80/20 rule.
This rule says that most of your results (80%) will come from 20% of your
efforts. That’s why it’s important to focus on the right 20%.

A lot of people focus on SEO tips that nudge the ranking
needle just a bit, if at all.

Instead, focus your efforts on getting high-quality back
links. This is one of the best ways to get that needle to move quickly in the
right direction.

Get creative with this. Think outside the box. Create a
contest, contact someone you admire to collaborate, make a video.
The options are endless.

Focusing your efforts on getting high-quality back links
will take time and effort, but the results you see will be well worth it.

Search Engine Optimization Should Not Be Ignored

If you’re like a lot of people, the idea of spending any
amount of time on SEO seems daunting, confusing, and even boring.

However, SEO is a very necessary part of your online
marketing efforts. Without it, your website will be lost in the oblivion of
search engine pages.

In order for you to be viewed by potential customers as a
trusted authority, you have to rank high on Google and other search engines.

If you don’t have the time or patience to work on SEO on
your own, hire a marketing expert who can help you. It will be an investment
that you won’t regret.

Do you find the topic of SEO somewhat overwhelming? If so, you’re not
alone, which is why you should
Stephan on Twitter
, read his amazing blog, and
invest in at least one of his SEO manuals.
