Don’t be tacky with your content
Millennials are easy to dismiss anything that doesn’t suit or meet their needs and to keep it simple, they’re not very likely to share branded content unless they see a riveting reason to do so. If you’re seeking to captivate and engage millennials, focus on creating content that is:
- Super entertaining and fun
- Visual (they’re more inclined to stop scrolling if there is a picture or video)
- Educational and/or information
Millennials are will reject a hard sell and well hey… they’re good at spreading the word around if you don’t meet your claims or if they don’t believe in it. However, if you can succeed at making the beautiful relationship with them, they will become loyal customers and help make your content go viral.
Create that FOMO
Definition of FOMO: Acronym for fear of missing out. Typically used within the vocabulary of the millennial generation.
FOMO is the reason why everyone has latched onto their phones and are constantly checking into social media. Everyone (and yes, that includes the older generations) are afraid of the next big news and events that might come about whilst they’re disconnected.
You can use FOMO in your marketing efforts by making millennials feel as if they will be missing out if they ignore your content.
Keep it real
Millennials are simple and very versatile. They want honesty and straightforward information that is going to capture their attention and grab their loyalty.
With every piece of content that you create, you should be promoting your products, services, and brand as authentic as you possibly can. Why? Because if you don’t live up to the standards your promoting, millennials will spread the word fast than you can say supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
You want to inspire some kind of emotional attachment to your brand, but the only way you can do that is by being honest, straightforward and real. Millennials are eager to share content that is funny, dramatic, loveable, poignant and speaks to their lifestyle. Better yet- if you give them a reason why they need your product now and back it with influencers, they will definitely get a fear that if that they don’t get this now they will miss out on a crucial trend. You want to also begin a conversation with them.
Give them a reason to talk about you
Millennials know how to spread the word fast, actually, they thrive on word of mouth marketing and are more inclined to purchase a product or service if they had been recommended it. So what does this mean for you? You need to give millennials a reason to spread the word about who you are.
How do you do this?
– Be compelling with your product/ service story
– Get in the headlines
– Utilise people of influence (will go into more detail about this in the next part)
– Market how you are solving problems for them
– Inspire them with your content and give them a reason as to why they NEED to purchase your product now and not later
– Use testimonials- nothing better than proof
– Be consistent with your messaging

Use people of influence
Influencer marketing is a form of marketing in which focus is placed on influential people rather than the target market as a whole. It Identifies the individuals that have influence over potential buyers and orients marketing activities around those influencers. Influencer marketing has become one of the biggest tools when it comes to building not just your brand, but generating that trust between yourself and your consumer. Right now, it’s one of the best tools that you can use to start that process of getting information and building brand awareness about your product.
So how do you do this?
To make it easy, make sure you’ve done market research on your niche and get an understanding of who they are and who they might be following. Identify which social media celebrities they are more inclined to purchase off and contact them with information about your product and how you want to work together. You will need quite a few influencers, so start building up a list of those you would like to work with and start strategizing how it’s going to work for you.
