Get Your Website Noticed

5 Actionable Tips That’ll Get Your Website Noticed

Most experts say that building a website is the most important step in building a strong online presence. And while in some ways that’s very true, it’s simply not enough anymore since every one of your existing competitors already has one.

So how can you make sure that your website stands out to your customers?

Here are 5 tips that’ll help your website stand out from your competition.

Use Relevant Keywords

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) something that simply cannot be ignored.  But it’s not enough to do SEO, you need to do it right.  And that starts with using great keywords.  Don’t just try to use the most obvious things that come to mind.  Spend time figuring out terms people would be searching for. Your goal is to make it easy for people who are actively looking for you to find you AND to become discoverable to people who have no knowledge of who you are or what you do.

Run keyword searches using tools like Google Adwords, Keyword In, Soovle, and Ubersuggest to find all the words and phrases that people would use to find you. Remember to be as specific as possible when deciding on keywords. Think of it as filling in a delivery address when you’re ordering pizza. The more specific you are, the more accurate the results will be.

For example, “makeup artists LA” is a phrase that people would use to find you if you’re a makeup artist in LA. “Bridal makeup artists LA” is something that people would use if they needed a makeup artist who specialized in bridal makeup.

Get Listed On Online Directories

Many people rely on online directories to find products and service providers nearby. And the best part is that these directories already do all the hard work to get ranked high in the search results.  All you need to do is create your listings there.  Some of the popular directories are Google Maps, Yelp, Yellowpages, City Search, Foursquare, Google My Business and

Get Your Customers To Give You Good Reviews

Many people rely on the reviews they read online when deciding whether to buy a specific product or service, so encourage your existing customers to leave positive reviews on your directory listings.  This helps to build your social proof. It also tells people you’re a reputable business with a stellar reputation.

Invest in Search Engine Marketing (SEM)

SEM is a paid way to get your website noticed and is perfect if you’re just starting out. You simply set up pay-per-click campaigns so that your business is front-and-center to prospective new customers. For example, if you set up an ad for “bridal makeup artists LA,” your website would show up near the top of page 1 in Google’s search results.

Use Alt Tags for Your Images

In addition to ranking for keywords, you can also rank for the images on your website by adding “alt tags.”  Alt tags are descriptions of the images that are on your website. So, for example, if you have an image of a Labrador puppy playing, you might use the alt tag “playing Labrador puppy.”

To help your images rank, you’ll need to optimize them for the “Images” tab of Google’s search results. Here’s how:

  1. Use high-quality photos and videos of the products and services you sell.
  2. Keep your file sizes small. You don’t want them to take forever to load.
  3. Use an appropriate caption that includes relevant keywords

Unfortunately, there’s no “easy” button when it comes to getting traffic to come to your website. But the tips outlined here can – and will – attract the right type of traffic, which translates into more leads, and ultimately, more sales.
